Who Is Eligible

This opportunity is open to individuals who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Currently working in security with a solid work history

  • Interested in entering the security field and enrolled in a college or academic institution, including a university, technical school, or high school (including dual enrollment)

  • Individuals employed in another profession who are seeking additional experience in security or event operations

  • Applicants must demonstrate strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow standardized procedures

 Onboarding Process

The onboarding process consists of several structured steps:

  1. Complete an Interest Form
    All applicants must complete an interest form with accurate and complete information.

2. Enroll in Required Training Course

After submitting the interest form, applicants register for the Security and Protection Foundations Course (Approved AZDPS Guard License Course) complete the required course to be licensed to work security in State of Arizona (Expiration Period: 2 years (pre-Sept 26, 2025) or 4 years (on/after Sept 26, 2025).

Orientation & Licensing Process

Once training and documentation are complete:

  1. Applicants will attend an orientation, where key expectations, procedures, and responsibilities are reviewed

  2. At this stage, the applicant’s packet will be submitted to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) (Note: Applicants will be fingerprinted during orientation to be included in the AZDPS security license packet)

  3. Applicants must wait for license clearance before being scheduled for work

  4. Upon approval, applicants will be notified and instructed to:

    1. Schedule a coaching session

    2. Sign up for their first assigned event

    3. After completing coaching and initial scheduling, applicants may begin working assigned shifts

Training

Training consists of a 10-module course covering core topics required for licensure, including:

  • Introduction to security and protection services

  • Professional conduct and appearance

  • Report writing

  • Response procedures

  • Communication and situational awareness

Applicants will complete a credential or pre-credential check, including submission of an eligible photo for licensing purposes.

Following course completion:

  • An initial coaching session is required

  • The licensing packet is finalized and submitted to Arizona DPS

  • Additional coaching sessions may be offered based on role or assignment

Pay Structure

  • Compensation is determined per event and varies based on assignment requirements. Part-time personnel are compensated as independent contractors (1099), with rates established per event. Pay rates may increase based on experience, performance, availability, and assignment complexity.

  • Applicants will complete a W-9 form and will receive a 1099 at the end of the year for tax purpose.

Qualifications of Applicant (Arizona DPS Standards)

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age

  2. Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident authorized to work in the United States

  3. Have no felony convictions and not be under indictment for a felony

  4. Within the past five years, not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving:

    • Personal violence or threats of violence

    • Misconduct involving a deadly weapon

    • Dishonesty or fraud

    • Arson

    • Theft

    • Domestic violence

    • Sexual misconduct

    • Violations related to sexual exploitation statutes

  1. Not be on parole, probation, community supervision, or subject to an outstanding arrest warrant

  2. Not be adjudicated mentally incompetent or deemed a danger to self or others

  3. Not be a registered sex offender

  4. Not have acted as a security guard without proper licensure when required

Additional Requirements for Armed Security Applicants

Applicants seeking armed security certification must also:

  1. Meet all unarmed security requirements

  2. Successfully complete all required background screenings and training

  3. Not be a prohibited possessor under state or federal law

  4. Not have been discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces under other than honorable conditions

  5. Not have been convicted of any domestic violence offense
