History of policing in the U.S.
Overview
Historical development of policing in the United States originated from England. Understanding prior systems and methods to enforce laws and bringing criminals to justice allows us to understand what does and doesn't work. Critical issues plagued development of policing into a paid police force. A major issue was trust of government. Establishing a paid force where trust could be established was a challenge. Sir Robert Peel created 9 Principles as a model to influence creation of London Metropolitan Police Agency.
